Cherry Pickers
« on: October 29, 2015, 12:44:18 AM »
So I go to my beer league game tonight and the other team apparently has a new recruit.  Marc f'n Savard.  Then they have the nerve to yap about our one under-age player ... by only 2yrs, but at least he's not a friggin' ex-NHL player.
Savard played nice, kept it to about 10, maybe 20% effort until they were down a couple and then he decided to pick up the pace and light up our goalie for a few.  But really, I'm sure he can find a higher level of team to workout with that at least challenges him.
Nothing against Savard, the entire team he chose to play on is full of  :cenr: :cenr: :cenr:

Next time we play them I may run a steel rod down the hollow of my composite stick to stiffen it up ... if you get my drift.

Wow, that's as close to cheating as you can get!  At the same time, pretty cool to play with Marc Savard, no?  Is it fair to say he stood out amonst everybody?

I remember the last year I played, playing against a guy who obviously wasn't supposed to be on the team, or in the league. (Not an nhler I doubt)
He show boated a few to many.... then, non contact hockey or not,  he got the message.

We were holding back on that  :bh:  ... although one D-man who was victimized by a behind the back, off the skate then through the legs move, came to the bench asking if Savard was cleared for contact yet.   :laughs:  But he wasn't really show boating as much as he was just simply going around us the best way he knew.  Some of the passes he made were incredible, but the guy on the receiving end didn't know what to do with it.  We were leading until someone on their bench told him he could shoot on our goalie.  Prior to that he was faking and dishing.

Rubens, ... ya, it was fun lining up against him.  He took a few draws but mostly hung around the fringes playing wing.

That's interesting and you have to wonder how much fun it was for him if he was really laying off.  I mean, competitive nature makes you want to go harder but at the same time, it wouldn't be fun running up the score and looking that out of place.

Sounds like a fun experience.

I can totally see show-boaters making people anger leading to them getting hit.  Funny stuff.

Toronto Maple Leafs Jersey History

A Proud Franchise With Strong Tradition And Rich History

13 Stanley Cups

The Toronto Maple Leafs have an incredibly rich history and are arguably the most storied franchise in all of hockey. While the tradition runs deep with 13 Stanley Cups, the last of which came in 1967, the organization was considered a dynasty in the 1940's and 1960's only to be followed by five long decades of drought that began with the Ballard years up until the present day. While a resurgence through the Pat Burns teams of the 1990's and Pat Quinn in the early 2000's brought some respectability back to the organization despite still falling short, the patience of every Leafs fan is at an all time high. And yet an undying support with fierce loyalty for the Blue and White also remains. With the arrival of Brendan Shanahan, Lou Lamoriello and Mike Babcock, Leafs Nation remains cautiously optimistic that our beloved Buds have finally turned the corner to put Canada's Team back on the map.
